2017 Orlando Hamcation

This past Saturday I attended Orlando Hamcation. Now that I’m more familiar with HF equipment and operation, it was nice to poke around the manufacturers’ displays and get my hands on some of the toys.

I attended the AMSAT forum to hear updates on their Fox CubeSat program, an upcoming geosynchronous microwave-bands satellite that will be over North America, and amateur radio aboard the International Space Station.

Later in the day I attended the discussion which¬†focused on ARRL’s Collegiate Amateur Radio Initiative. While mostly geared toward university students and their clubs, I found the information very applicable to our station at MOSI; we use amateur radio to teach kids and teens tidbits about electronics, physics, and the atmosphere.

It was also nice to meet some of the Florida hams who frequent Reddit’s amateur radio community.

All in all, a good day. 73!
